Outstanding Preschool –May 2009
This is the best preschool in Lafayette and probably one of the best in Colorado. The educators are experienced (30 years) and have devoted many years training other preschool instructors in the area. They are innovative, child driven, and terrific in every way. The school is small and draws the best from a number of philosophies. The school has six or seven units a year (for example ‘Faces’, ‘Dogs’, ‘Forts’, ‘Space’, ‘Water’, ‘Ducks’) While the teachers carefully plan some experiences and opportunities to create a learning environment, they allow students to guide the units. The facility is clean & home like, the toys are thoughtful and simple. This should be the first stop/waiting list for families in Erie, Lafayette, Louisville. As an educator with three children who has seen lots of preschools, both as a professional and as a parent, this one is outstanding.

Dear Sandy & Janet,
There are just not enough words to express the love and gratitude I have for the both of you. The complete ease and joy I’ve felt with dropping Vivian off everyday has been invaluable. I wish all parents could have/experience that ease & joy. The gift and talent that you two possess as educators, friends, and business partners is fantastic and joyful. You are an amazing team on all fronts. I am always amazed at how rich and wonderful the Friends ‘n Fun experience continues to be. It only ever seems to get better. Vivian says her favorite thing about Friend ‘n Fun is the Cray-pas. My second favorite part is the levels of exploration and discovery that is allowed – with out the, “No. That is not what that is used for.” My first, and most favorite part is the two of you. Without you it just wouldn’t be Friends ‘n Fun. Thanks for being the next best thing to me being able to stay home with her. I hope Kindergarten and the rest of the world like her as much as we do! With the deepest thanks, love, and gratitude possible.
Love, Jane

Outstanding Preschool!
Friends ‘n Fun is truly an outstanding preschool. It draws the best from multiple philosophies but more than this the educators are experienced, innovative but allow enough flexibility in their curriculum to be student driven. Their greatest strength perhaps is their ability to foster social and emotional growth through building conflict resolution skills to engaging kids in group problem solving. They embed literacy in play and in a huge assortment of mediums. They create an extended family through cookouts, mother’s day teas, individualized albums of the child’s work. They go through about 7 units a year and really study subject matter in depth. For example in their “Dog” units kids went on a field trip, made clay dog bowls and ate from them, put on a “Bark George” play, invented a dog wash/dry/grooming center, etc. etc. I don’t think I can give this unit or the “Hideouts”, “Space”, “Water”, “Faces”, “Ducks” unit enough justice. After having older children in several three other preschools and touring preschools in various capacities, I cannot recommend this preschool enough. Absolutely outstanding in every way. They do have quite a waiting list though so get on it early. The waiting list is shorter for the afternoon session.

Pros: Nurturing, innovative, child driven, experienced teachers
Cons: Wish it could accommodate more children

Our family is so thankful for Friends ‘n Fun and for everything you do to make it such a special place. We truly feel like it’s this little gem tucked away in Old Town Lafayette. Here’s what we love about you: that you allow children PLAY, that you encourage them to explore, that you facilitate ways for them to work through conflict, that you always have something new and interesting (or old, but unseen for awhile, and interesting) to pull our for kids every week, that you allow kids to engage with literature in such a full body (and mind & spirit) way, that you are such a great resource for parenting questions, and that you genuinely seem to care for every single child and family that comes through your doors. We have so much love and respect for all of you. We are very, very grateful to have been part of your world, and you have no doubt affected our lives and our children’s lives forever.
Thank you – Leah & Trace.
